Our Approach

Professional Training Meets Personal Touch

Program Overview

At THS, we believe in nurturing bright minds while celebrating each student's unique journey. We create small, supportive learning communities where students of similar ages and emotional development can thrive. Our holistic approach ensures that every child receives the individualized attention they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Therapeutic Program

Our therapeutic program sets The Harris School apart, supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges to help them thrive in and out of the classroom.

Family Consultants:

Licensed mental health professionals work closely with each family through weekly individual and group meetings, offering support and strategies for success at home and school.

Sensory Integration:

We incorporate sensory-based strategies to help students regulate their sensory inputs, enhancing focus, emotional balance, and overall learning.

Collaborative Problem Solving:

We approach behaviors as unsolved problems and work with students to find the underlying challenges. Together, we help them develop strategies to manage emotions and build positivebehavior patterns.

Physical Activity for Emotional Regulation:

Strategic physical activity helps students calm their minds and bodies, improving focus and emotional well-being.

Social Skills Groups

Students join weekly social skills sessions led by family consultants to develop communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.

Academic Program

At The Harris School, we believe that every child can succeed when provided with a supportive, engaging, and individualized learning experience. Our program meets students at their level, building foundational skills and encouraging a love for learning.

Individualized Learning:

With a 1:5 staff-to-student ratio, we provide personalized instruction tailored to each child's unique academic needs, helping them progress at their own pace.

Social and Emotional Skills Integration:

Social and emotional skills are proactively taught throughout the school day, with staff coaching students in the moment to help them apply these skills in real-time.

Social-Emotional Curriculum:

Along with our integrated social and emotional skills program, we use the Character Strong curriculum, a research-based approach that develops empathy, resilience, and strong relationships.

Project-Based Learning:

Our hands-on, experiential approach lets students engage meaningfully with thematerial through projects that integrate subjects and promote critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)-Based Curriculum:

Our curriculum aligns with the TEKS standards, ensuring that students are receiving education that meets state benchmarks.

Creative Enrichment:

As part of the enrichment program, creative exploration through art, music therapy, and physical education supplement in-classroom development.
